Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron has impressed in his first XFL season for the St. Louis Battlehawks.
His six-touchdown effort in St. Louis’ 53-28 win Saturday against the Orlando Guardians gave him the league’s single-season record for TD passes, and may have propelled McCarron to frontrunner for league MVP honors.
McCarron, who played his first four NFL seasons for the Bengals, completed 28 of 35 passes for 420 yards with the six TDs. The Battlehawks set a single-game XFL record with 53 points, to improve to 7-3 this season.
In February, McCarron rallied St. Louis past the San Antonio Brahmas in his debut, and led the Battlehawks’ game-winning drive in a win against the Seattle Sea Dragons to start the season 2-0.
