Alfred Montgomery prioritizes community-oriented policing and strategic reforms in his leadership transition as Sheriff-elect.

St. Louis City Sheriff Alfred Montgomery

Yesterday was a difficult day for me, and I’m sure, more difficult for others. I personally  distributed courtesy letters to several of the current Sheriff’s administration informing them of  my intent to discontinue their roles in the Sheriff’s Office once I am sworn in.

These decisions will not be taken lightly. We spoke with almost every member of the  Administration during our consideration. I anticipate some will stay on and others will not.

Changes of administration are commonplace in every major organization when a new executive  comes in. It was the case when the current administration took over from its predecessor.  Substantial change in leadership has been a common feature of Sheriff transitions across the  State of Missouri for many years.

These decisions will be driven in part by budgetary concerns. The current Sheriff’s Office is  woefully understaffed and unabashedly top-heavy. We plan to swear-in 13 new Deputies on Day  One. We plan to hire 20 new Deputies during the first month. My Administration will have fewer  Administrators and more Deputies. Existing Deputies will be receiving substantial raises. We  cannot fulfill these promises without making room in the budget.

For years, the Sheriff’s Office has largely failed the 22nd Circuit and the people of St. Louis. The  current Administration’s policy of Zero-Cooperation during the transition is the latest example.  We appreciate the service offered by these administrators on an individual basis, but it is time for  new leadership.

I look forward to serving the people of the City of St. Louis.

ALFRED MONTGOMERY

SHERIFF-ELECT

CITY OF ST. LOUIS

About Alfred Montgomery

Alfred Montgomery is a dedicated and passionate individual who has tirelessly worked to improve his community in St. Louis. Coming from a background of poverty and crime, Alfred understands the challenges faced by his fellow citizens. He has made it his mission to be the change that his community desperately needs.

Through his work with local elected officials, Alfred has taken on projects of all sizes to enhance the city. No challenge has been too big for him, as he is driven by the desire to create a better future for all residents. From addressing vacant and abandoned buildings to tackling high poverty and crime rates, Alfred has shown unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those around him.

Alfred’s service is rooted in building strong relationships between law enforcement and the community. He understands the importance of trust and unity in creating a safe and prosperous environment. Working with troubled youth who harbor negative perceptions of law enforcement, Alfred has taken it upon himself to bridge the gap and foster understanding.

Recognizing the need for systemic change, Alfred has actively engaged with lawmakers in Jefferson City to push for legislation that improves law enforcement practices. His efforts have resulted in important advancements, such as requiring law enforcement officers to wear body cameras. Alfred’s dedication to reforming policies from within the system is commendable, as he understands that change starts with addressing the root causes of societal issues.

Alfred’s journey in law enforcement began as a private investigator and later with the St. Louis City Police Department. Witnessing outdated policies and mismanagement within the Sheriff’s Office, he fearlessly challenged the political establishment. Although facing backlash and being unjustly fired during the COVID outbreak, Alfred’s determination remains unshaken.

Alfred is a strong advocate for public safety, focusing on criminal justice reform and improvements. He believes in providing comprehensive training for law enforcement officers, implementing body cameras to ensure transparency, and offering better pay for deputies who put their lives on the line every day. Additionally, he aims to revamp the management of the City jail and implement more inclusive hiring practices, fostering diversity within the ranks of law enforcement.

Furthermore, Alfred recognizes that the cycle of crime can only be broken by addressing high poverty rates. He advocates for the implementation of reentry programs for offenders, providing them with opportunities to reintegrate into society successfully. By investing in the community and embracing community policing, Alfred seeks to build strong relationships and empower residents to take ownership of their neighborhoods.

Alfred Montgomery’s commitment to strengthening public safety and advocating for criminal justice reform is unparalleled. His dedication, experience, and passion make him the ideal candidate to lead positive change in St. Louis. Let us support Alfred in his mission to create a safer, more prosperous future for our city. Together, we can build a community that thrives on trust, transparency, and unity.
