Angels in the Wings” brings a heartwarming holiday performance to Detroit’s Gem Theatre.

Angels in the Wings’ Brings a Unique Holiday Story to Detroit’s Gem Theatre

This December, Angels in the Wings: The Musical returns to Detroit, presenting a reimagined retelling of the birth of Christ from the perspective of God’s angels. The production will be staged on December 21, 2024, at the Gem Theatre, offering audiences an opportunity to experience a story of faith and celebration through a blend of gospel, jazz, R&B, rap, and classical music.

The musical, directed by Jacquelyn Vaughn-Whitaker, brings together an impressive lineup of talent, including saxophonist Randy Scott, vocalist Kimmie Horne, and the David Whitfield Chorus. It also features contributions from playwright and director T.J. Hemphill, known for productions such as Perilous Times, and Musical Director Carlton Grupton. The cast and creative team promise a vibrant and engaging performance that incorporates modern and traditional Christmas carols alongside striking visuals, choreography, and set design.

What sets this production apart is its ability to intertwine Detroit’s cultural identity with a universal message. The show highlights a diverse range of musical influences, reflecting the city’s legacy as a hub for creativity and storytelling. Vaughn-Whitaker and her team will deliver a performance that resonates with audiences across generations.

To accommodate the high demand, the production offers two showings: a matinee at 3:00 PM and an evening performance at 7:30 PM, with VIP ticket options including a gourmet dinner.

This event is presented by Architecture & the Arts, a non-profit dedicated to creating opportunities for young people in the arts, in partnership with Sold Out Productions. The production aligns with their mission of fostering creativity and inspiring the next generation to explore careers in music, theater, and design.

Tickets are available through the official website and Eventbrite. Given the strong response, organizers recommend purchasing tickets early. For more information, visit angelsinthewings.net.

This year’s performance is not just a holiday outing; it’s a moment to reflect, connect, and celebrate the season with a uniquely Detroit lens.
