The “Black Wings: American Dreams of Flight” exhibit at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center is an important celebration of the contributions of African Americans in aviation and space exploration. Organized by the Smithsonian Institution, this exhibition will be available to the public for three months, from February 4 to May 3.
The exhibit is divided into six sections, each highlighting the achievements and stories of Black Americans who have significantly impacted the aviation industry. Notably, it includes a dedicated section on the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators, who played a crucial role during World War II.
Visitors can expect to see a variety of photographs and first-hand interviews that bring to life the experiences of these trailblazing individuals. The “Black Wings” exhibit is free to the public and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals and families to learn about the vital contributions of African Americans in the field of aviation and to appreciate their legacy in the broader context of American history.
If you are heading to Kansas City from St. Louis, it is only a short 4 hour drive. And I hope you have a great time checking out the exhibit, and possibly enjoying some delicious BBQ.
