Central Visual and Performing Arts High School collaborates with civic bodies to drive young voters’ involvement

ST. LOUIS – Central Visual and Performing Arts High School (CVPA) and former student Rasheedah Hasan is collaborating with local civic organizations, including 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis, the League of Women Voters, St. Louis City NAACP, and Collective Impact Strategies to educate students on the importance of civic engagement in the upcoming November election.

CVPA will host a press conference and civic engagement forum titled “The Art of Voting” on October 23, 2024, at 9 a.m. (CT). The event aims to excite students to ‘#dosomething’ this election season and share about the historical significance of civic engagement while preparing seniors for Election Day.

Additionally, CVPA seniors will have the unique opportunity to participate in a day trip to Washington, D.C., on November 6, 2024, where they will learn about the democratic process beyond voting, further inspiring their civic involvement.

As part of this initiative to increase civic participation this election cycle, Lyft is offering a $10 ride code to help students and voters overcome transportation barriers on Election Day. For more information about the 2024 Lyft Up Voting Access Program and to obtain your discount code visit: Lyft offers discounted rideshare, bikeshare, and scooters to the polls for Election Day.

Hosted by Rasheedah Hasan, alumna of CVPA, former congressional staffer for Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, Ranking Member of the Committee on Education and Labor, and founder of Collective Impact Strategies. The initiative also highlights the collaboration between 100 Black Men of St. Louis, the League of Women Voters, the St. Louis City NAACP, and Collective Impact Strategies.  Together they hope this event will serve as a demonstration for other high schools to ‘#dosomething’ this election season.

Election Day is November 5, 2024.
