Despite releasing the biggest song of the year, Shaboozey was left empty-handed at the CMA Awards.

The headlines are reading “Shaboozey did not win a single award at the Country Music Association Awards, despite having the biggest song of the year,” and I am here to get the scoop on why? Clearly, we all know why he didn’t win, and I am not going to place the race card.
However, this man is very talented, and with the beautiful Miss Universe Nigerian Runner-Up Chidimma Adetshina getting upstaged by winner Ana Gabriela Villanueva of Sweden, it is continuing to shift back to the left. Recently, we tried to reach out to Chidimma on Instagram, and we are excitedly hoping she will respond.
But most importantly, let’s stay on topic here. Who is Shaboozey, and why does he matters to us?
A quote from a social media critic: “‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ by Shaboozey becomes the longest running solo #1 hit in Billboard Hot 100 history. (17 weeks)”
One Twitter fan had this to say: CMAs have a race issue. The #CMAAwards are racist. Watch the racism unfold from last night CMAs. Shaboozey deserves better & he released the biggest country song of the year 18 weeks at number one on Billboard hot 100 charts. How do you let someone get away with being this disrespectful?
Collins Obinna Chibueze, known professionally as Shaboozey, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He gained initial attention for his 2018 song “Start a Riot”, which was included on the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Chibueze was born in northern Virginia to Nigerian parents and raised in Woodbridge. His stage name is derived from mispronunciations of his surname, meaning “God is king” in Igbo. In his childhood, he was inspired by watching music videos on 106 & Park, as well as his time at a boarding school in Nigeria for junior high. In 2014, Shaboozey released his first single, “Jeff Gordon”. That same year, he founded the production company V Picture Films. He was signed to Republic Records in 2017 after catching their attention with singles “Starfoxx” and “Robert Plant”, and released his debut studio album, Lady Wrangler, the following year. His second studio album, Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die, was released in October 2022 through Empire Distribution. His third studio album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, was released on May 31, 2024, which he will promote with headlining shows in the US, as well as a slot as an opening act for Jessie Murph on tour. Though his earlier music had more of a trap influence, his later songs have more of a folk-pop sound with acoustic guitar. Wikipedia.
According to Revolt online: Born on May 9, 1995, the country artist falls under the earth sign. Taurus characteristics include being hardworking, dedicated and persistent, which all echo strongly with Shaboozey’s nature. Determined to make it out of his small hometown in Virginia, he stayed true to himself and his passions.
Would Shaboozey be a true country-singing man if he didn’t enjoy movies about the Wild West? The young talent told NBC that he used to read about the old outlaws in Dime Pulp magazines and romance cowboy novels. Now, he sees the past playing a big part in modern trends and music. “I love connecting the bridge and showing people [that] these are the same concepts in Hip Hop and country-Western music,” he said.
In March, Beyoncé dropped her eighth studio album, COWBOY CARTER. While she made it clear that the project wasn’t necessarily a country compilation, the icon still featured talents privy to the genre. Shaboozey appeared on two records: “SPAGHETTII” with country singer Linda Martell and “SWEET * HONEY * BUCKIIN’.” Overjoyed with his accomplishment, the artist took to Twitter after its release and wrote, “TWO SONGS ON A BEYONCÉ ALBUM?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?! LIFE NOT EVEN REAL RN!!! Y’ALL CAN’T TELL ME NUN!!!
In addition, that alone should have garnered him so buzz in the CMA’s selection committee. In closing, I do not see anything but greatness coming to this young talent, so stay tuned for our official interview with him soon.
