Now, let’s hear from the man himself.
Tell the readers a little about your show that is coming up?
Tony Tatum: My show on November 21st at City Winery will be full of 80s R&B throwback energy. It will be a mixture of high energy party songs and timeless ballads that will remind the fans how amazing the 80s era of music was.
How long have you been in the entertainment business?
Tony Tatum: I’ve been in the music business for 25 years
That is remarkable. When it comes to fame, what do you think motivates you more each day?
Tony Tatum: When it comes to fame, that doesn’t motivate me. I’m motivated each day by how my story of many years of grinding to make this a career will inspire other upcoming artists that are determined to make a career in music. It starts with belief in self and never giving up
Tell me about your upbringing as a child, did you ever imagine becoming a singer?
Tony Tatum: As the age of 11 years old I was attracted to Ole’ Skool R&B Music. Every morning before leaving to go to school I found myself with a hairbrush in my hand singing in the mirror to The Whispers, Luther Vandross, Alexander O’neal and Babyface. I imagined being on stage in front of thousands of people, feeling the screams from fans and then signing autographs.
If you had your way, who would you like to do a collaboration with, male or female?
Tony Tatum: If I had my way I’d love to collaborate with Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. He is my all time favorite artist and songwriter. I patterned my voice, songwriting and musical style after his. His humbleness off the stage makes it even more intriguing to work with him.
The City Winery is located within the picturesque and bustling City Foundry, what do you want the fans to know about your performance?
Tony Tatum: Regarding my performance at City Winery, I want the fans to know how passionate I am about music. I want them to understand that music is not and has never been a hobby for me and that I leave it all on the stage. When the show is over I want the fans to feel like we were on a musical journey together and my goal is for them to look forward to the next Tony Tatum Experience journey.
Very commendable sir. If you could perform anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
Tony Tatum: If I could perform anywhere in the world it would be in Las Vegas. I’m a true entertainer that loves lights and stage theatrics so Las Vegas would be perfect for elevating the Tony Tatum Experience
Do you have a band, tell us about them?
Tony Tatum: As far as my band, it is full of experienced musicians that have toured with the likes of Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Prince, Bobby Brown, Ceelo, Jagged Edge, K. Michelle and many more legends. When you hear them play you will connect with them and feel the experience they all have.
Thanks for your time, I know you are very busy, so have a great show at City Winery, November 21st.
Tony Tatum: Thanks for having me, I appreciate it.
