As we embark on Women’s History Month, I found myself contemplating which remarkable woman to spotlight in a story. Unfortunately, as I began my research, I came across the heartbreaking news from TMZ that actress and soul singer Angie Stone has passed away.

The late star’s rep Deborah R. Champagne tells TMZ … Angie left a performance in Montgomery, Alabama early Saturday morning when she was killed in a car crash. No other details are known at this point.

Angela Laverne Brown (December 18, 1961 – March 1, 2025), known professionally as Angie Stone, was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. She rose to fame in the late 1970s as member of the hip hop trio the Sequence. In the early 1990s, she became a member of the R&B trio Vertical Hold. Stone then signed with Arista Records to release her debut solo album Black Diamond (1999), which received gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and spawned the single “No More Rain (In This Cloud)“.

After transitioning to J Records, she released her second album, Mahogany Soul (2001), which spawned the hit single “Wish I Didn’t Miss You“. It was followed by Stone Love (2004) and The Art of Love & War (2007), her first number-one album on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Wikipedia

Angie Stone is a talented R&B and soul singer known for her powerful voice and heartfelt lyrics. Here are some of her top songs:

  1. “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” – One of her biggest hits, this song showcases her soulful sound and has been widely celebrated.
  2. “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” – A poignant ballad that captures the pain of lost love, this track is a fan favorite.
  3. “Brotha” – A tribute to Black men, this song features a smooth groove and a positive message.
  4. “Everyday” – A song that highlights her vocal prowess and emotional depth.
  5. “Love Jones” – This track features a classic R&B vibe and romantic lyrics, making it a staple in her discography.
  6. “I Wish I Knew” – A soulful exploration of longing and desire.
  7. “Voodoo” – Known for its catchy beat and infectious chorus, this song showcases Stone’s range.
  8. “Stone Love” – A heartfelt love song that resonates with many fans.
  9. “U Haven’t Done Nuthin'” – A collaboration with other artists, this song features a strong social message.
  10. “The Good, The Bad, The Ugly” – A reflection on life and love, blending her signature sound with relatable lyrics.

Angie Stone has a rich catalog of music that reflects her experiences and artistry, making her a significant figure in contemporary R&B.

More

Angie rose to fame as a member of The Sequence — the first all-female group signed to Sugar Hill Records.

The last time I saw her act on television was when I binge-watched ‘Saints & Sinners,’ a prime-time soap on Bounce, back in 2022. Her performance was outstanding, but unfortunately, her character was killed off after just a few episodes.

Diabetes

I also learned from research that in 1999, Stone was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and, along with comedian-actor Anthony Anderson, was part of the F.A.C.E Diabetes (Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered) program sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, which helps African Americans understand their risk for diabetes and how to control it. Stone said that both her mother and her mother’s sister were diabetic.[52][53]

Stone is an honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority. She was inducted in July 2024 at the sorority’s Boulé in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wikipedia

This is a somber day for all of Angie Stone’s fans. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with her two children, Diamond and Michael, as they prepare to say goodbye to their mother.

Here is a You Tube Video I found of one of my best songs by Angie. AngieStoneVEVO•
