Get out your cowboy hats and your best alligator skin boots, for a great event for the whole family. Southeastern Rodeo Association has returned to the city with St. Louis Open Black Rodeo. The tickets are going fast, because last year’s event sold out quickly.

This is being billed as Southeastern’s 10-year anniversary, and like everything else, St. Louis loves to celebrate for the cause. We are noticing great enthusiam with the Rodeo, and we believe there will be more to come in the future.

The History:

The St. Louis Open Black Rodeo is an annual event held in St. Louis, Missouri, since 1979. It is part of the National Black Rodeo Association and is the only rodeo in the city. The event takes place over two days, usually in late August or early September at the Washington Park. During the rodeo, contestants compete in various events, including bull riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, team penning, and wild cow milking. Competitors come from all over the United States, and each year new participants bring their own unique style and personality to the show. Every year, the rodeo has a different theme. In addition to the competition, the event is filled with music, food, vendors, and other fun activities. The Open Black Rodeo is a great way to experience the culture of the American West and celebrate the traditions of African-American rodeo riders.

More: The originator of rodeo steer wrestling, or bulldogging, African-American cowboy Bill Pickett was born in 1870 in Travis County, Texas. With four brothers, he established Pickett Brothers Bronco Busters and Rough Riders, which advertised “catching and taming wild cattle a speciality.”
