This campaign is about more than just politics—it’s about people. It’s a movement of neighbors, workers, and families coming together to shape a better future for District 14. John Bowman is running for State Senate because he believes in what we can accomplish when we listen to each other, work side-by-side, and lead with integrity. He’s ready to bring his lifetime of experience to Jefferson City, and he would be proud to have you join this movement.
Together, we can build a community that reflects the strength and values of every resident. This is our chance to move District 14—and all of Missouri—forward.
A Proven Leader with Deep Community Roots
For over 40 years, North St. Louis County has been John Bowman’s home. His life’s work has been a dedicated fight for justice, opportunity, and second chances for people from all walks of life. His worldview was shaped by firsthand experiences with racism and injustice in both Mississippi and Missouri during the Jim Crow era. These early encounters with oppression gave him a clear and unwavering purpose: to serve his community and fight for a more equitable world.
Before his journey into public service, John built a stable life for his family as a union electrician at Missouri’s Chrysler plant. As a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) for 33 years, he saw how organized labor lifts working families and creates pathways to the middle class. This foundational experience instilled in him a deep respect for the dignity of work and the power of collective action.
A Record of Action and Resilience
John’s commitment to service led him from community organizing to public office, first as a Northwoods alderman and later as a State Representative for North County. In Jefferson City, he wasn’t just a vote; he was a champion for his constituents. He sponsored and passed meaningful legislation focused on public health, education, urban development, and senior services. One of his proudest achievements was authoring Missouri’s current minimum wage law—a measure rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to live with dignity.
The path of a public servant isn’t always easy. In 2008, John faced a personal challenge that tested his resolve. After a misdemeanor conviction and resigning from public office, he was given a second chance, thanks to the unwavering support of his family, faith, and community. This experience didn’t defeat him; it refined him. It reinforced his life’s work of fighting for second chances and reminded him that true leadership requires honesty, humility, and unwavering passion.
John’s dedication to justice was on full display in 2014. When Michael Brown was killed, he stood in solidarity with the Brown family, legal advocates, and a new generation of activists to demand accountability. In those pivotal moments, his resolve to support those denied justice and opportunity grew even stronger.

Fighting for a Thriving District 14
John Bowman has a clear and actionable vision for Missouri. His platform is built on four key pillars that address the most pressing needs of our community.
Economic Development for Everyone
John believes in an economy that works for all, not just the wealthy and well-connected. His plan focuses on investing in small businesses, revitalizing underserved neighborhoods, and ensuring state funding creates jobs right here in District 14. As a former legislator, he has a track record of passing legislation that promotes urban renewal and supports minority-owned businesses. In the Senate, he will continue to fight for policies that bring good-paying jobs and long-term investment to North County.
Workforce Development & Organized Labor
As a longtime UAW leader, John understands the critical role of strong unions and skilled labor. He will prioritize expanding job training opportunities, defending workers’ rights, and supporting fair wages. He knows that organized labor built the American middle class, and he will oppose any effort to weaken it. His focus will be on apprenticeship programs and workforce partnerships that prepare Missourians for the jobs of the future.
Education as the Foundation of Opportunity
Every child, regardless of their zip code, deserves a high-quality education. John has consistently fought for equitable school funding and support for our teachers. He will champion investments in public schools, access to early childhood education, and the modernization of our curriculum. He is also a strong advocate for making college and career pathways—including trade schools and community colleges—more accessible and affordable for all families.
Healthcare as a Human Right
John firmly believes that healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. He has sponsored legislation to improve health outcomes and will work to strengthen and protect Medicaid in the State Senate. His priorities include expanding mental health services and increasing access to affordable care, particularly in underserved areas. He is committed to addressing the health disparities that disproportionately affect Black and Brown communities, ensuring no family has to choose between their health and their financial stability.
