The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra teams up with Grammy-winning gospel artist Donald Lawrence for a groundbreaking performance on February 28.
Internationally acclaimed and awarded winning vocalist Donald Lawrence will collaborated with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus at its February 28 concert, the institution announced today. Lawrence will serve as the featured guest artist at the annual Lift Every Voice: Celebrating Black History month concert at the Stifel Theatre. Lawrence replaces Brian Stokes Mitchell, the originally announced guest artist.
Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at slso.org or by calling the Box Office at 314-534-1700.
Equally at home in both the inspirational and contemporary arenas, the multiple Grammy and Stellar Award winner has collaborated with a diverse roster, including such marquee names as Karen Clark Sheard, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, En Vogue and Mary J. Blige. He makes his SLSO debut in this annual program, which celebrates Black musical cultures and features the SLSO alongside the IN UNISON Chorus, a resident SLSO chorus that specializes in performing and preserving music from the African diaspora.
Lawrence’s musical passion continues to manifest itself through various pursuits. He has written and produced for the legendary Clark Sisters, Clark Sheard, Kirk Franklin and Hezekiah Walker (including No. 1 single “Souled Out”), among others. He has taught at Chicago’s Columbia College. And for six years, he has hosted Verizon’s national gospel choir talent competition “How Sweet the Sound,” working alongside Walker, Yolanda Adams, Tamela Mann and other special guests. Future plans include expanding into TV, film and Broadway projects.
