Get helpful insights and expert tips to simplify your holiday vacation planning. Make this Christmas season enjoyable and stress-free with our practical advice.

My aunt will be laid to rest on Monday in St. Louis with full military honors. A powerful snowstorm swept through the Gateway City and nearly disrupted her homegoing celebration, but despite the weather, the service carried on. The venue was filled to capacity, and for those unable to attend in person, the ceremony was shared live and streamed online.

As I reflect on the day, I know many of us are carrying similar emotions. For me, the next step is turning toward the Christmas holiday season and preparing for what’s ahead. I’ve done some research and gathered a few helpful insights that can make planning your holiday vacation easier and more enjoyable. Enjoy and be safe!

Black travelers this holiday season (Dec 1–15, 2025) are prioritizing culturally rich destinations like Ghana, the Caribbean, and welcoming U.S. cities. Cheap flights are available starting at $34 for domestic routes, hotel deals are abundant thanks to Travel Tuesday and Cyber Week sales, and the best bed-and-breakfast cities include Charleston, Savannah, and New Orleans.

Where Black Travelers Are Going This Holiday Season

The holiday season has always been a time for family, culture, and reconnection, and in 2025, Black travelers are embracing destinations that celebrate heritage and belonging. According to Ebony and GWA Travel Collective, top spots include:

  • Ghana and Bahia (Brazil) – Diasporic destinations where history and culture run deep.
  • Caribbean islands like Barbados and Jamaica – Perfect for beach escapes and wellness retreats.
  • U.S. cities with strong Black cultural presence – Atlanta, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C. remain favorites.
  • Underrated gems – Travel Noire highlights places beyond the mainstream, offering affordability and authenticity.

These destinations combine affordability with cultural resonance, making them ideal for holiday travel.

Cheap Flights Between Dec 1–15, 2025

Holiday flights can be expensive, but early December offers some of the lowest fares of the season. Based on Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Trabber:

  • Chicago to Atlanta – Frontier Airlines from $34 (Dec 18, but similar deals earlier in the month).
  • Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles – Spirit Airlines from $53 (Dec 11).
  • Orlando to Las Vegas – Frontier from $97 (Dec 2).
  • Cleveland to Houston – Spirit from $86 (Dec 8).

Domestic flights under $100 are widely available, especially if travelers fly midweek. International flights are pricier, but Cyber Week deals on Google Flights and Kayak help cut cost.

Cheap Hotel Rates in December 2025

Hotels are also offering major discounts during Cyber Week and Travel Tuesday. Expedia, Tripadvisor, and Kayak list:

  • Up to 40% off hotels worldwide during Travel Tuesday.
  • Member-only rates and free perks like breakfast or late checkout.
  • Budget-friendly destinations highlighted by The Broke Backpacker include Mexico City, Lisbon, and Bali, where accommodations remain affordable even in December.

For U.S. travelers, cities like Las Vegas, Orlando, and Miami are offering competitive rates, while boutique hotels in cultural hubs like Atlanta and New Orleans provide both affordability and atmosphere.

Best Cities for Bed & Breakfast Stays

Bed-and-breakfasts are increasingly popular for travelers seeking intimacy and authenticity. U.S. News and USA Today highlight:

  • Charleston, South Carolina – Known for historic homes and Southern hospitality.
  • Savannah, Georgia – Offers charming inns with cultural depth.
  • New Orleans, Louisiana – Combines Creole culture, jazz, and cozy B&Bs.
  • Asheville, North Carolina – A mountain retreat with artisanal breakfasts.

These cities provide a more personal touch than hotels, perfect for holiday travelers looking to connect with local culture.

Conclusion

For Black travelers this holiday season, the focus is on cultural connection, affordable travel, and authentic stays. With cheap flights under $100, hotel discounts up to 40%, and cozy bed-and-breakfasts in historic U.S. cities, December 1–15, 2025 offers the perfect window to travel smart. Whether heading to Ghana for heritage, Barbados for beaches, or Charleston for charm, the season promises both savings and soulful experiences.

After noticing New Orleans on this list, I must say, I would love to get back to Crescent City soon. However, whatever you decide, make sure you stay safe and focused! A message from The Argus Newspaper in St. Louis!
