In a story exclusive to The St. Louis ARGUS, it is my pleasure to present one of my best friends, Shareece Gregory, who is now her organization’s CEO and Manager.
Shareece Gregory, recently achieved the incredible milestone of placing 3rd in a National Miss America Beauty Pageant. The coveted Crown as 3rd place Ms Lone Star Ultimate Woman24, BUT as the 1st Plus-size, Black, bald-headed (Alopecia) woman.
This accomplishment is a nsignificant departure from the traditional beauty standards that society often imposes on us, which demand slim figures, long hair, and conventional attractiveness. “Given the stigma around appearance and the continuous pressure to conform, her journey has been one of defying expectations and breaking barriers, quotes Ms. Gregory known by family and friends ReeRee.
For many who are unaware that September is National Alopecia Month, or even have no idea what ‘Alopecia’ is, or where it comes from, read on.
Ironically, Alopecia has no cure and affects both males and females, even affecting young people.
St. Louis has a special connection with Shareece she tours with her platform to highlight, promote and encourage St. Louisans to better understand the issues surrounding Alopecia and the diverse people who suffer from its effects.
With her personal challenges she clearly understands open discussions about alopecia are a harder reveal she shares, “not only her experience in the beauty industry but also the crucial connection to mental health”.
Making a valid point of how hair loss at any age male or female is highly traumatic. Research further indicates in a world where young girls constantly receive messages telling them they are not enough, and social media is a constant nreminder of a shortcoming. Her story and platform aims to redefine what beauty truly means.
“I want to convey that beauty is rooted in the heart and that every person living with Alopecia deserves to feel beautiful and be valued, no matter their size, nor hair condition.
