In the new video, Justice for Our Families, is being released two weeks ahead of the 10th anniversary of Michael Brown’s murder by police officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014. The ad will air across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms.

Wesley Bell notably campaigned for St. Louis County prosecutor on the promise that he would bring justice to Michael Brown’s family and reform the office of the prosecutor that had been occupied by the same career politician for over 25 years. After Bell was elected, he declined to bring charges against Darren Wilson for the murder of Michael Brown, a decision widely criticized by the racial and criminal justice groups that helped elect him.

Since then, many of these groups have also criticized Bell as failing to deliver on the progressive promises he campaigned on. Just last week, a new report released by St. Louis’ Prosecutor Organizing Table criticized Bell for numerous failures and broken promises including the 60% rise in Black women behind bars in St. Louis County over the last year and the jail population reaching the exact same levels as his predecessor.

Congresswoman Cori Bush was a notable leader, nurse and activist in Ferguson during the racial justice reckoning in the aftermath of Michael Brown’s murder. Bush served on the frontlines of Ferguson using her training as a registered nurse to care for injured protesters and built a lifetime bond with the parents of Michael Brown Jr. In Congress, she has pushed for systemic changes to policing and our criminal legal system, notably introducing the People’s Response Act—an inclusive, holistic, and health-centered approach to public safety that would create a Division on Community Safety within the Department of Health and Human Services and invest in evidence-based approaches for public safety and crisis response.
