Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Nadyia Blakemore’s life is a testament to resilience, creativity, and a passion for helping others. As a young girl, Nadyia faced the challenge of a speech impediment that made her stutter. Yet, this did not hold her back. With her mother’s encouragement, she and her sister entered a talent show where Nadyia performed Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer” and her sister took on Olivia Newton-John’s “Let’s Get Physical.” Their performances won them the competition, and for Nadyia, it marked the beginning of a lifelong journey into the world of dance and self-expression.

Dance became a vital tool for Nadyia, helping her gain confidence and overcome her speech impediment with the help of speech therapy. Her passion for dance led her to train at the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York, where she honed her skills and prepared for a professional career. Nadyia later moved to Los Angeles, where she quickly made a name for herself in the commercial dance industry. She performed alongside renowned artists like Jay-Z, Shakira, Beyoncé, and Fall Out Boy, showcasing her talent on some of the world’s biggest stages.

Nadyia’s career also extended to the big screen, where she earned IMDb credits in Oscar Award-winning films such as *The Curious Case of Benjamin Button*, *Gangster Squad*, and *Idlewild*. She has also appeared in several commercials and fitness videos, further showcasing her diverse talents.

However, it was her personal experiences as a mother that ignited a new passion—postpartum fitness training. After the birth of her second child, Nadyia faced a series of physical challenges that would change her life’s focus. Her weight had climbed to 187 pounds on her 5’3″ frame, and she had to undergo an emergency C-section. What followed was a struggle with lymphedema, severe pain, diastasis recti, and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Diastasis recti, or D.R., is a condition where the large abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy. It is especially common in women over 35, yet it is often overlooked by healthcare providers. Nadyia’s condition was so severe that she could fit her fist in the separation of her abdominal muscles. The lack of awareness and education around D.R. in the U.S. struck a chord with Nadyia, especially as she learned that in other countries like those in Europe, mothers are routinely educated and work with pelvic floor specialists postpartum.

Driven by her own struggles, Nadyia, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, founded Empowerment Fitness, a program specifically geared towards postpartum mothers. She advocates for better education around postpartum care that teaches women techniques like yoga, breathing exercises, and relaxation methods to prepare for childbirth and aid in their recovery. Nadyia offers an online program for postpartum moms and has developed an app to make her resources even more accessible.

Beyond her work in fitness, Nadyia is also an author. She penned *Adventures of Tommy and Pearl: Take Flight*, a children’s book that imparts valuable lessons about self-esteem and self-discovery, drawing from her own life experiences to inspire the next generation. The book is available on Amazon.

Nadyia’s husband, Sean Blakemore, is a key source of support in her life. Originally from St. Louis, MO, and a graduate of Hazelwood East High School, Sean is an Emmy Award-winning actor who received his award for his role in *General Hospital*. He has a long history of movies and television dating back to 1996, with notable roles in films such as *Ad Astra* alongside Brad Pitt, *Star Trek Into Darkness* as the leader of the Klingons, *Motives*, and popular TV series such as *Cruel Summer*, *All Rise*, and *Greenleaf*. The couple’s dynamic is one of mutual support and shared success, both in their careers and as parents.

Nadyia Blakemore’s journey is an inspiring one, especially for moms-to-be. Her story underscores the importance of education and support during the postpartum period and serves as a reminder that even the most accomplished individuals face challenges. Through her work, Nadyia is helping other women navigate the complexities of motherhood, proving that with the right support and determination, they too can overcome any obstacle.
