Starting Sunday, Sep. 1, Missouri had begun embargoing and destroying food products sold in Missouri that contain intoxicating hemp to protect the health and public safety of Missourians. Since Sept 1, the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has confirmed they have visited 44 establishments as of 4 p.m. Thursday to inspect for the banned products, said Lisa Cox, spokesperson for the department.
Of the 44 facilities, regulators found “unregulated psychoactive cannabis products” during inspections at 23 of them, Cox said. “Four facilities have refused to embargo or discard products,” she said. “The remaining facilities agreed to embargo and/or discard products. At this time, we have taken no court action.” In addition to these efforts, Tomorrow, September 10 at 11 a.m., Governor Parson will hold a joint press conference with Attorney General Andrew Bailey to announce new actions the state will take to enforce Executive Order 24-10, which prohibited the sale of foods containing psychoactive cannabis compounds in the state of Missouri, unless originating from an “approved source.”
Governor Parson and Attorney General Bailey will be joined by Senate President Pro Tempore Caleb Rowden, House Majority Floor Leader Jonathan Patterson, Department of Health and Senior Services Director Paula Nickelson, Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Kevin Bond, Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control State Supervisor Michael Leara, and Missouri Poison Center Director Julie Weber.
