Empowering Communities: A Free Naloxone Education Event to Combat Opioid Overdose

(COLUMBIA, MO) – In partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition (BCORC) and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS), the Reentry Opportunity Center (ROC), 1621 Towne Drive will host a SAVE-A-LIFE: naloxone (also known as Narcan®) education and distribution event from 12 – 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12. SAVE-A-LIFE will be part of the ROC Recovery Resources Fair hosted from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The ROC Recovery Resources Fair will also include recovery and reentry resources, employment opportunities, trade opportunities, networking and free food and drinks.

Following the event, PHHS staff will be present to provide information and brief training for individuals who cannot attend the formal presentation. Both formal and informal training will include recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and explaining how to use and access naloxone.

SAVE-A-LIFE is a series of monthly, free-to-the-public events that feature education and conversations around how members in the community can help to prevent opioid overdose deaths through the use of naloxone nasal spray (a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose).

No registration is necessary. A personal supply of naloxone will be available to all attendees. For more information, contact Heather Harlan at Heather.Harlan@CoMo.govcreate new email or 573.817.6404/Jessica Chambers at jessica@in2action.orgcreate new email or 573.607.9372

This event is funded in part by contract DH240054280 between PHHS and the State of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. As a result of the continued partnership between PHHS and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health (MIMH), NARCAN® will be available to participants of the event at no cost.

Location: 1005 W. Worley St.
