The Argus Newspaper is excited to introduce another remarkable nonprofit organization in the USA: the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Join us as we shine a spotlight on one of their dedicated volunteers and the work that is being implemented by ACFB in Georgia.

Time is an invaluable resource, and the volunteers at the Atlanta Community Food Bank generously share it in abundance. As the Southeast’s leading organization in the battle against hunger, the Food Bank depends on the dedication of compassionate volunteers. In fiscal year 2024, these individuals contributed over 128,000 hours of service across more than 41,000 meaningful visits. With a diverse range of backgrounds and ages, each volunteer brings a unique and vital contribution to the Food Bank, whether they assist weekly, monthly, or as part of a special project.

During Volunteer Month, which runs from April 1 to April 30, the Food Bank is proud to highlight Mickay Hall. An Army veteran and former businessman, Mickay has become a committed volunteer at the Community Food Center – Marietta (CFC), one of the Food Bank’s direct-to-families food pantries.

He began his volunteer journey with the Food Bank in 2019 and, after retiring in 2022, has made it a point to volunteer regularly in 2023. Mickay dedicates at least two days a week to the CFC, often extending his commitment to three or four days when he isn’t traveling or engaged in other projects. His leadership philosophy, deeply influenced by his military experience, emphasizes the importance of caring for others.

Mickay Hall, a Washington D.C. native, began his journey at the United States Military Academy at West Point before dedicating twenty years to the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he made a successful transition to the corporate sector, where he held positions at Coca-Cola, Valassis—a top provider of marketing solutions—and ISS, a leader in workplace experience and facility management.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mickay is committed to giving back to the community. He volunteers at the Food Bank and with Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Advisors for the Syracuse University Office of Veteran and Military Affairs and acts as a University Ambassador for Syracuse University.

About Atlanta Community Food Bank

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people, and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day. Through more than 700 community-based, nonprofit partners in 29 counties, we help thousands of families, children, and seniors get healthy food every year. Our goal is that all hungry people across metro Atlanta and north Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. In 2023, the Atlanta Community Food Bank distributed its one billionth meal. Join us at ACFB.org.
