See what State Senator Brian Williams had to say on Linkedin about the impact of CCDI’s efforts in promoting construction careers in the St. Louis Metro area.
State Senator Brian Williams took to Linkedin, to give a warm salute to an initiative that is making headway in the St. Louis Metro area. He was speaking of CCDI – Construction Career Development Initiative, and here is what he had to say on his post:
The business community’s support for CCDI – Construction Career Development Initiative has been truly remarkable. Hilti Group generous donation of high-quality tools to students at North Tech and McCluer High School exemplifies fostering the next generation of construction and design.
A special thank you to Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent Dr. Davis and the team at McCluer High School for their invaluable support. We are also grateful for the partnership with Patrick Hanneken and the team at North Tech. It was also fantastic collaborating with fellow Hazelwood School District Alumni, North Tech Principal Emanuel Young, and Nicole L. from Hilti.

CCDI STL
CCDI was founded in 2015 in response to the aftermath in Ferguson, Missouri. Our program provides young adults in St. Louis the support to overcome barriers, pair them in long-term mentorship, offer financial support, and create opportunities for job placement.

St. Louis’ CCDI program offers local high school students the opportunity to participate in monthly Saturday Construction Academy classes to help expose students to career pathways in construction. Each monthly session focuses on: soft-skill and career development preparation, hands-on-learning projects or community service activities, professional option & trade option guest speakers, field trips and site visits to construction projects to learn about companies and career opportunities in the St. Louis area.
“Being a part of the CCDI program changed my life. I had the opportunity to job shadow, complete a summer internship, network with industry leaders and ultimately start my career in the painting trades. With the help of my mentors, my goal is to be a minority business owner and help to influence those in my community about careers in construction”
Employers
The labor shortage in the construction industry is a growing problem as fewer and fewer people enter the skilled trades. This means the impact of the shortage on safety, productivity, and construction costs are going to increase as the current workforce approaches retirement age.
Why should the workforce shortage matter to business owners?
Labor shortages lead to a strained workforce, which can cause over 15% on cost overrun and over 20% on schedule overrun. The push for workers to remain on time and on budget under these conditions has been proven to increase the rate of safety incidents by 50%, slowing progress even further.

What can CCDI do to help business owners?
By partnering with CCDI and our mission, we work with businesses to help create an environment where those interested in the construction industry can enter and be successful and retained. We will help our industry partners continue their efforts grow the local workforce by supplying the right training and mentorship to students, underrepresented and underemployed young adults in our community.
CCDI connects business owners with jobseekers by making them a part of the workforce development process. We offer business owners the opportunity to participate in our career fairs to meet with our CCDI participants one on one and find jobseekers that are training in their field.
We also invite business owners to accompany CCDI to events as guest speakers to help raise awareness and educate people on the job opportunities within the industry. In St. Louis, we partner students with businesses for summer internships. This gives businesses the chance to personally train prospective new employees.
