Senator Karla May releases statement addressing new evidence in CVPA school shooting, sparking discussion on school violence and gun control.

(Jefferson City, MO) The following is a statement from State Senator Karla May (D – St. Louis):
This story makes it clear that the horrific and deadly school shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts in St. Louis could have been prevented if Missouri had a Red Flag law. In the State Senate, I filed legislation to give police officers the authority they need to stop dangerous people from having deadly weapons. Republican opposition has continued to block this commonsense measure from moving forward. This Republican blockade is making police officers’ jobs more dangerous, and all our communities less safe. Missouri needs leaders who will support our police not just with hollow gestures, but with the actual tools and training needed to stop mass shooters BEFORE they kill innocent civilians.
