AYP – Committed to empowering individuals through literacy, achievement, and educational advancement

The St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP), a program operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, hosted its Annual Etiquette Luncheon on June 6, 2025. Taking place at the Westin Hotel in downtown St. Louis at noon, the event brought together more than 100 SLIP interns and business professionals to foster meaningful connections while sharpening professional skills.
This luncheon serves as a pivotal moment for SLIP participants, offering them the chance to put their lessons from the program’s ten-week employment training into practice. SLIP’s core mission is to provide hope and opportunity for high school students in the St. Louis area through paid summer internships. The luncheon supports this mission by equipping students with critical skills they’ll need to succeed in professional settings.
Preparing Students for the Workforce
The etiquette luncheon is designed specifically to prepare students for their upcoming internship experiences. Each table will be moderated by an etiquette facilitator, teaching students essential skills in dining, professional social interactions, and professional conversations. These lessons are a key element in the students’ preparation, ensuring they feel confident in navigating the professional world.
The event also includes training sessions and development workshops, providing a well-rounded experience for the students, who will begin their internships the following Monday.
Building the Leaders of Tomorrow
Since its inception, SLIP has played a leading role in workforce readiness for high school students across the St. Louis region. This year’s program will see 130 students kick off their summer internships on June 9, stepping into roles that will shape their development and career aspirations.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis President and CEO Brandon Williams shared the importance of the program, stating, “The St. Louis Internship Program isn’t just about internships; it’s creating pathways for young people who are hungry for opportunity. It’s about nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow.”
SLIP has built a reputation for producing students who are ready to contribute as productive employees, while also creating a talent pipeline for local employers. This luncheon represents a core aspect of this preparation, reinforcing the values of professionalism and etiquette that benefit both students and the St. Louis community at large.
Making a Difference in the St. Louis Community
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, which operates SLIP, continues to support the youth in the region through various programs. With 12 locations throughout the Bi-State Region, the Clubs offer after-school programs, teen centers, sports leagues, and mentorship opportunities designed to foster growth, development, and leadership.
Together, we’re shaping the future, one internship at a time.
