TEDx event at Missouri S&T set for Oct. 30

Hear from eight powerful speakers at Missouri University of Science and Technology’s TEDx event, all centered around the theme of “Unveiling Resilience.”

Eight speakers will present their ideas at Missouri University of Science and Technology’s TEDx event Wednesday, Oct. 30. The theme of the event is “Unveiling Resilience.”

The talks will take place in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 400 W. 10th St. in Rolla. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for a reception with complimentary refreshments; the talks will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for Missouri S&T students. Tickets are available online at tedxmst.com.

The speakers will cover topics including AI, water recycling, burnout and more. This year’s speakers and their presentation titles include:

  • Coleman Goulding, “Beyond Limits: Space Age Insights for Life.” Goulding is a junior at Missouri S&T, on track to complete an accelerated master’s degree in aerospace engineering by 2027.
  • Dr. Larry Gragg, “STEM Alone Will Not Save Us.” Gragg is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor emeritus of history and university historian at Missouri S&T.
  • Burton Kelso, “Will AI Kill Our Imaginations?” Kelso is chief technology expert at Integral, as well as an international keynote speaker and TV and radio tech expert.
  • James Peters, “Residential Water Recycling and All the Unexpected Benefits.” Peters is an executive, leader and artist.
  • Mike Pleimann, “How Gen Z Can Defeat Chemistry and Physics.” Pleimann serves as an academic success and retention strategist at Missouri S&T.
  • Malachi Rein, “Unveiling the Hidden Potential of Our Buildings.” Rein is the director of the Building Energy Exchange St. Louis.
  • Tara Stone, “Creating Wonder: The Power of Storytelling in Pediatric Cancer.” Stone is a user experience designer, an S&T alumna, and mother to a young son battling leukemia.
  • Dr. Robin Verble, “We Didn’t Start the Fire: Cultivating Resilience in an Age of burnout.” Verble is a professor of biological science at Missouri S&T, and has researched occupational and environmental factors associated with wildland firefighter health.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” that shares media and supports educational initiatives. All presentations are recorded and shared though TEDx media.
