Join the Empowerment Network and Friendly Temple in promoting prostate cancer screenings during Men’s Health Month. Learn more here.

WHAT: June is Men’s Health Month. In keeping with its mission to raise awareness about total body health in men including
its primary focus on prostate cancer education and testing.

WHO: The Empowerment Network, Inc. (TEN), has partnered with Friendly Temple Baptist Church to host “Hyped For Health:
A Men’s Prostate Cancer Awareness and Testing Initiative.

WHEN: Sunday, June 9th from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: Friendly Temple Baptist Church, 5515 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, St. Louis, MO 63112

As part of an educational campaign for men’s health recently, The Cleveland Clinic surveyed more than 500 American men ages 18-70 about their use of healthcare resources. The findings: only 60 percent of men get annual physicals. The survey also shed light on men’s attitudes toward doctor office visits – about 4 in 10 men only go to the doctor when they feel it is essential for a serious medical condition.

Cleveland Clinic is a highly respected, nationally and internationally recognized non-profit academic medical center that provides clinical and hospital care and is a leader in research, education and health information based in Cleveland, Ohio.

The informative event promotes health and well-being, offering educational materials and free prostate screenings, explained Bishop Michael F. Jones, Sr., Friendly Temple’s Senior Pastor.

“This event is a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in prostate cancer prevention and early detection,” Jones says. “Take advantage of this chance to prioritize your health and empower yourself.”

During the month of June, TEN will promote awareness activities to encourage men to focus on their health – for themselves and their families by pledging to make a doctor’s appointment, get a physical exam, and get a prostate screening. The month will feature a radio campaign, television interviews, and community health fairs.

TEN Founder and President Mellve Shahid Sr., a 17-year prostate cancer survivor, said his journey with cancer has taught him the value of good health to oneself and loved ones. Men’s Health Month is a powerful platform to elevate the immense worth of healthy living.

“This is the true wealth of a man to himself and his family,” Shahid says. “As cancer survivors and through our journey with this disease, we understand the meaning of being healthy and staying healthy. We understand that health is proactive, and cancer is reactive; that good health is encouraging and being unhealthy is discouraging on all levels.”
