“What an old man can see sitting down, the youth cannot see standing up.”

This proverb from the Ntomba people of Central Africa suggests that the wisdom of the elderly is so powerful that they can see far, even if a young person tries. The young can walk faster, but the elder knows the road. The proverb highlights the complementary strengths of youth and age, and the wisdom gained through life’s experiences. A youth that does not cultivate friendships with the elderly is like a tree without roots.

The passing of the torch to a new generation of 21st-century business developers, entrepreneurs, and inventive minds, building on the foundation of the likes of Booker T. Washington and other Black business organizations will take center stage at the 124th National Black Business Conference, August 21-24, at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Atlanta.

The National Business League, rooted in the organization founded by Washington more than one hundred years ago, alongside esteemed partners and co-founders of the National Alliance for Black Business, the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), the World Conference of Mayors (WCM), and over fifty national organizations stand united as cohosts of the National Black Business Conference.

Among the energetic conference participants will be the inaugural Next Gen Summit, the premier gathering of young, motivated, and innovative entrepreneurs and leaders geared towards a target age range of 17-40.

The NexGen voices are poised to deliver an inspiring and transformative event designed to empower the next generation of Black business leaders who are ready to put their imprint on tomorrow.

“Bridging generations in business isn’t just about preserving tradition or sharing wisdom—it’s about forging a dynamic future,” says NexGen committee member, Sean James, Founder and CEO of VSNWKS (VisionWorks), an Atlanta-based public relations firm. “When we connect the experience of our elders with the innovation of our youth, we create a powerhouse of knowledge and creativity. It’s this blend that drives sustainable success and ensures our legacy of excellence endures.”
