Discover Books and Bagels, a new community series featuring engaging local authors, lively conversations, and delicious bagels from Lefty’s Bagels. Join us to connect and celebrate literature!

The J is proud to announce the launch of Books and Bagels, a brand-new series designed to bring the community together through great conversation, engaging local authors, and of course, fresh bagels from a local favorite: Lefty’s Bagels.
The series kicks off on Wednesday, June 25 with beloved St. Louis author, Alan Spector, presenting his latest release Life Lessons Learned—a heartfelt and humorous reflection on the quotes, one-liners, and cultural proverbs that shape our lives. From baseball to retirement, tough moments to timeless advice, Spector’s writing is warm, wise, and full of the kind of insight you’ll carry with you. Sports lovers can buy tickets to this event at https://www.showpass.com/books-and-bagels/.
The program continues Wednesday, July 23 with Sarah Angleton, author of Paradise on the Pike, a spellbinding historical mystery set against the backdrop of the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. With echoes of Water for Elephants and The Devil in the White City, the novel explores Hagenbeck’s Zoological Paradise, where dancing lions, sliding elephants, and dark secrets collide. Book lovers can buy tickets to this event at https://www.showpass.com/books-and-bagels-sarah-angleton/.
Join us at the Staenberg Family Complex’s Arts & Education Building at 2 Millstone Campus Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146 for friends, author talk, discussion, and bagels from Lefty’s Bagels. Doors open for each event at 10am, with brunch being served at 10:30am and the author discussion beginning at 11am. Tickets for each Books and Bagels event are $12 per person and author titles will be available for sale at each event.
