Unlock the Heart of Detroit: Top Experiences with the Downtown Detroit Partnership

Each month, the DDP shares a list of Downtown Hot Spots from metro Detroit local. Here are some of the favorite Downtown Spots from the DDP’s data director, Josh Long.

I end up at 7 Greens on Library street a lot at lunch. A good salad is the fuel I need.

Queens Bar on Grand River and Farmer is my go to for Happy Hour drinks

Cannelle- The pastries are the best. I simply love this place and my wife loves it even more.

Campus Martius Park- nothing beats grabbing food from a local restaurant or food truck and enjoying the sun in the park over lunch in the summer.

Boll Family YMCA- great community atmosphere and you can’t beat the convenience. It’s easy to fit in a quick 1 hour workout and you can even take the People Mover there.

Comerica Park- during the week, if there is an afternoon game, I like to grab a sandwich and then try to catch some of the game from outside the stadium. There is a spot where you can look through the bars near the center field fountain. The location is fun to be amongst the crowd.

Downtown Detroit has been my playground for culinary delights, vibrant nightlife, and serene escapes. My travels have taken me far and wide, yet the epicurean pleasures and ambiance of my own city stand unmatched. I may be partial, but here are the top five gems in Downtown Detroit that I recommend:

Restaurant: Sexy Steak– As someone who appreciates the classic flavors, Sexy Steak is my go-to spot for a succulent steak paired with hearty potatoes.

Shopping: TLB– For a pop of color and confidence, I head to The Lip Bar to find the perfect shade of lipstick.

Hotel: The Godfrey Hotel– On days when tranquility and luxury are what I seek, The Godfrey offers the perfect opulent escape.

Spa: Woodhouse Spa– is my sanctuary for rejuvenation and pampering during those essential self-care moments.

Breakfast/Brunch: The Hudson Café– The bubbly mimosas and delectable brunch selections at Hudson Cafe make for an unbeatable start to the day.

Hey Detroit! I’m proud to call Michigan home after moving to the area less than 4 years ago. As a student attending Wayne State and being a part of the DDP Team, it’s become an excitingly unforgettable experience visiting, working, and eating in downtown Detroit. You can virtually hit every base of entertainment while coming down to Detroit! Here are some of my favorite spots:

Huddle Soft Serve: A little walk-up ice cream shop that serves classic frozen custards. the perfect sweet treat after a long day (the chocolate is my favorite!)

Offworld Arcade at Checker Bar: The perfect spot for a casual hangout with lots of cool vintage arcade games on the top floor and some good food downstairs!

La Lanterna: When I’m craving to eat some good Italian food, La Lanterna in Capitol Park is a staple. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and staff always make it a welcome experience while dining.

Detroit Riverfront: The riverfront is the place to go when you’re wanting to unwind and spend quality time with your close ones. I usually take in the waterfront views by renting one of the MoGo Bikes and cycling along the Riverwalk path. A quick detour to the Wintergarden located inside the GM Renaissance Center offers you a chance to eat and walk around their car gallery which is super neat!

Dessert Oasis Coffee: As a student, I’m always on the lookout for some study-spots to switch up the vibes and Dessert Oasis is the place I gravitate towards the the most. My go to order is their honey + cinnamon latte with a spinach feta pastry on the side!
