Engage in Cultural Celebrations and Community Activities This Black History Month in St. Louis

Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate this year’s Black History Month? Join Better Family Life and Washington University’s Brown School as we honor African American contributions through a powerful virtual presentation by Malik Ahmed, titled From Free Enslavement Labor to Economic Justice.

Strength in Labor is the inspiring theme for the 2025 Speaker Series, held in recognition of labor’s significance to the African American story and its ongoing fight for economic justice. The virtual event, part of the Brown School’s Centennial Black History Month programming, is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM CT. Registration is free and open now!

This enlightening webinar will explore historic injustices in Black labor, from enslavement to systemic exploitation, while highlighting the courageous resistance of Black workers and their continued fight for economic equity.

About the Speaker

Malik Ahmed, founder of Better Family Life, Inc., brings over five decades of experience in community development. Since 1983, his impactful organization has worked to stabilize inner-city neighborhoods, with initiatives spanning housing, workforce development, youth programs, and more. A graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Mr. Ahmed is also the author of From the Projects to the Pyramids, an inspiring memoir of resilience and empowerment.
