Empower yourself by exercising your right to vote. Your voice matters in shaping your community and holding elected officials accountable.

The 13th ward encourages you to exercise your power.

Voting can transform your life, and here are five reasons why: In a democracy, your vote gives you a voice in matters that concern you. Your vote holds elected officials accountable, compelling them to heed your concerns. It serves as a performance review for lawmakers.

If you’re dissatisfied with an official’s performance, your vote can remove them from office. The decisions of elected officials impact your daily life. Although federal elections draw the most voters, state and local elections are equally crucial. The outcomes at the municipal and state levels influence your daily life, shaping laws that govern taxes, health, public safety, education, recreation, economic development, and more. States oversee vital issues such as healthcare and tenant rights, manage education duration, infrastructure, job growth, and much more.

You contribute to tax revenue. By voting, you empower those who allocate your taxes. Voting ensures that your taxes are spent wisely and effectively. Rights are precious and must be safeguarded. Voting is a privilege in a democratic society. Despite all American citizens having the right to vote, challenges like gerrymandering, voting restrictions, misinformation, and election intimidation threaten this right.

Protecting this fundamental right starts with voting in every government election. Your voice is significant. Young voters provide unique perspectives on issues affecting their generation. Getting involved early in the voting process cultivates a lifelong habit and allows you to shape the future.
