Donald Trump’s last inauguration occurred on January 20, 2017, when he officially took office as the 45th President of the United States. His upcoming second inauguration is set for January 20, 2025, coinciding with a predicted polar vortex, which has sparked significant backlash among some citizens regarding the lineup of performers. Due to the anticipated extreme temperatures, the event will be held indoors at the Capitol this time.
As I scrolled through my timeline, I noticed that TikTok’s struggles aren’t the only hot topic at the moment. Many fans of St. Louis rapper Nelly are expressing their outrage over his scheduled performance at Trump’s “Second Time Around” event. Personally, I have no strong feelings about it; I believe Nelly is a talented entertainer and savvy businessman, and I expect he will deliver an excellent performance. Fans like me will still be tuning in.
This just in:
Monday, January 20, the Presidential Parade for the Inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States and JD Vance as the 50thVice President of the United States has been moved indoors to Capital One Arena.
“Capital One Arena will now serve as a live viewing of the Swearing-In Ceremony at the U.S. Capitol followed by the Presidential Parade with President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance.”

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. He was born on November 2, 1974, in Austin, Texas, but he grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Nelly gained prominence in the early 2000s with his debut album, “Country Grammar,” which was released in 2000 and included hit singles like “Hot in Herre” and “Ride Wit Me.”
His music is characterized by a blend of hip-hop and Southern rap, often incorporating elements of pop and R&B. Nelly has released several successful albums throughout his career, including “Nellyville,” “Sweat,” and “Suit.” He is known for his catchy hooks and distinctive vocal style.
In addition to his music career, Nelly has ventured into acting and business, featuring in films and television shows and launching various business ventures, including a clothing line and a record label. He has received multiple awards, including Grammy Awards, and is recognized as one of the prominent figures in the hip-hop genre.
More:
In 1999, he signed with Universal Records as a solo artist, leading to the release of his debut studio album, Country Grammar, in 2000. The album’s lead single, “Country Grammar (Hot Shit),” along with the follow-up track “Ride wit Me” (featuring City Spud), both achieved top ten status on the Billboard Hot 100. Country Grammar reached the top of the Billboard 200 and was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His second album, Nellyville (2002), produced two consecutive number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Hot in Herre” and “Dilemma” (featuring Kelly Rowland), as well as the top-five single “Air Force Ones” (featuring Murphy Lee and the St. Lunatics).
In 2004, he released two albums, Sweat and Suit, on the same day, which were later combined into the 2005 compilation album Sweatsuit. Both albums found success, with Sweat debuting at number two and Suit at number one, collectively selling around 700,000 copies in their first week. His fifth studio album, Brass Knuckles (2008), featured singles like “Party People” (featuring Fergie), “Stepped on My J’z” (featuring Jermaine Dupri and Ciara), and “Body on Me” (featuring Akon and Ashanti). In 2010, his sixth album, 5.0, leaned more toward pop music, with its lead single “Just a Dream” earning triple platinum certification from the RIAA. This was followed by the singles “Move That Body” (featuring T-Pain and Akon) and “Gone” (featuring Kelly Rowland). His seventh and eighth albums, M.O. (2013) and Heartland (2021), received mixed reviews and underwhelming commercial responses; the latter, released by Columbia Records, marked a significant stylistic shift toward country rap.
Over his career, Nelly has garnered numerous accolades, including three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards. Peter Shapiro has described him as “one of the biggest stars of the new millennium.”
