Join Tony the Tiger® and friends at Walmart as they celebrate literacy at Hazelwood North Middle School with a donation of 500 books from Penguin Random House to inspire students and foster a love of reading.

FLORISSANT, Mo. (May 19, 2025) – Tony the Tiger® and his friends at Walmart joined students with strong academic performance at Hazelwood North Middle School on Tuesday morning, May 13, for a special literacy event to celebrate the joy of reading. At the heart of the festivities was a donation of 500 books to the school’s library from the Penguin Random House collection to help spark happiness and confidence for kids and create opportunities for them to thrive.

“When a student opens a book, a world filled with limitless adventure, imagination and learning awaits them,” said Dr. Shalmica Jackson, President of the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) for Hazelwood North Middle School. “This generous donation of books to our school’s library will go a long way to helping ensure our students have the resources they need to cultivate enthusiasm for literacy.”

The event was one of 20 such celebrations happening at middle schools across the nation that will see more than 10,000 books donated this spring. It’s all part of a longstanding partnership between Walmart, WK Kellogg Co® and the Kellogg’s Feeding Reading®initiative to inspire a joy for reading and improve literacy skills among U.S. middle school children.

“Walmart is committed to giving back in meaningful ways that make a difference in the communities where our associates, customers and their families live, work and play,” added Laurel Starr, Store Manager of Saint Louis Walmart Supercenter #1265 in Florissant. “The literacy event at Hazelwood North Middle School in partnership with WK Kellogg Co® is just one example of how, through the magic of reading, we’re helping to do exactly that.”

“At the core of our Feeding Happiness™ sustainable business strategy at WK Kellogg Co® is our commitment to helping kids be their best,” says Drew Ham, Vice President Walmart Inc., WK Kellogg Co®. “We are proud to once again partner with Walmart to inspire gr-r-reat days by encouraging literacy among middle school students and helping foster a lifelong passion for reading.”
