Last week, the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) hosted more than 100 transfer and articulation specialists from higher education institutions across the state for the annual Committee on Transfer and Articulation (COTA) Conference.

This year’s conference, titled “Student Centered Transfer Revolution: Rethinking Policies, Practices, and Partnerships,” provided an opportunity for attendees to collaborate and learn more about institutional and state initiatives that seek to make postsecondary credentials attainable for all Missourians.

“Thousands of Missouri students transfer schools each year, and partnerships among COTA, MDHEWD, and postsecondary institutions help ensure this transition is as seamless as possible,” said Dr. Bennett Boggs, Commissioner of the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. “Our collective work and the passion of transfer and articulation specialists continue to pave the way for many Missourians on their educational path.”

Dr. Maggie Segnitz, Director of Success Advising at the University of Central Missouri, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that transfer students require a comprehensive support system that addresses their unique challenges. Other topics covered include transfer programming in community colleges, Missouri’s core transfer curriculum (CORE-42), new technologies for empowering retention and student success, relationships between community colleges and four-year institutions, and the reverse transfer process.
