Missouri’s healthcare apprenticeship program grows with a $50K grant, creating career pathways for underrepresented groups.

The Missouri Chamber Foundation has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development’s Office of Apprenticeship & Work-Based Learning through the State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula Fund Round 3 (SAEF3) Subgrant Award project. This funding will expand the Industry-Driven Healthcare Apprenticeship Program, creating more opportunities for Missourians to enter high-demand health care careers.
Through this expansion, the program will support 38 new apprentices in occupations such as registered nurse resident, licensed practical nurse, medical assistant, pharmacy technician and more. This brings the total number of apprentices being trained through the Industry-Driven Healthcare Apprenticeship Program to more than 1,500. Apprentices will receive paid, on-the-job training combined with classroom instruction, mentorship and industry-recognized credentials.
Participating health care providers include BJC HealthCare, CoxHealth, Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, Jordan Valley Community Health Center, Lifepoint Health, Mercy and University Health.
This project not only strengthens Missouri’s health care system, but it also expands access for dislocated workers, unemployed individuals, incumbent employees and underrepresented populations by providing career pathways with support services.
“We are excited to continue building strong partnerships with health care employers, workforce boards, community colleges and state agencies to ensure the success of this program,” said Karen Buschmann, executive director of the Missouri Chamber Foundation. “Together, we are addressing one of Missouri’s most urgent needs: a skilled and sustainable health care talent pipeline.
