Exploring the enduring impact of publishing in connecting communities and fostering empathy.

The 4th Annual Publishing Summit at P&L Group’s Future Ready: Power Up Change—19th Annual Virtual National Leadership Development & Recognition Conference has now come and gone. But the conversations, insights, and inspiration we shared together continue to resonate.
For me, the summit was more than a professional milestone—it was deeply personal. I’ve often said that I didn’t stumble into editing; I was raised in it. Storytelling was the language of my family, shaping not only how we communicated but also how we viewed the world. Books weren’t just entertainment in my childhood—they were teachers, companions, and lifelines.
I can still remember the feeling of walking into a Scholastic Book Fair as if it were a treasure hunt. The stories I carried home from those fairs became both mirrors and windows: mirrors that reflected pieces of myself, and windows into communities and ideas far beyond my own experience. That passion carried me into my career at P&L Group. And this year’s summit reminded me why I chose this path in the first place.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing writers transform their lived experiences into stories that reach across divides. At the Publishing Summit, that truth was once again brought to life. Nine extraordinary authors shared their work with us. Each one offered more than words on a page—they offered bridges. Bridges that connected us across geographies, generations, and differences. Bridges that stretched our imaginations, sparked dialogue, and reminded us of the power of storytelling to drive equity, belonging, and transformation.
As I listened, I was reminded of my work on The Inclusive Voice Radio Show, where I’ve had the honor of sitting with authors to explore not only what they write but why. Their stories of passion, persistence, and courage mirrored what we saw on the summit stage: the tenacity required to keep writing even when voices go unheard, and the joy of finally being able to share those voices with the world.
If the summit affirmed anything, it’s that publishing is more than producing content. It is about validating voices, preserving truths, and shaping culture. Writers are not just authors—they are architects of understanding.
In today’s world, where division and change can feel overwhelming, publishing creates the space to connect, to practice empathy, and to imagine better futures. The summit reminded us that stories are not luxuries. They are necessities.
As I reflect on this year’s Publishing Summit, I carry with me the bridges our authors built. And I carry the responsibility we all share to keep walking across them—to listen, to learn, and to continue elevating voices that have the power to move us forward. Because publishing isn’t just about words on a page. It’s about change. And the summit reminded us all why that work matters more than ever.
