Affinia Healthcare is thrilled to announce the completion of a major environmental improvement project at our Biddle Health Center. This new addition beautifies our campus and introduces innovative sustainability features that will benefit the entire St. Louis community. We invite you to join us as we celebrate this milestone and our ongoing commitment to community wellness.

This project introduces beautiful and functional green space designed to manage rainwater more naturally. By controlling rain where it falls, these new features will play a crucial role in reducing local flooding and improving water quality in the Mississippi River.

Join Us for the Unveiling Ceremony

We are hosting a special event to celebrate the completion of this important project. It is an opportunity for community members, partners, and friends to see the improvements firsthand and learn more about our mission.

When: Monday, November 17, from 11 a.m. to noon

Where: Affinia Healthcare, 1717 Biddle Street, St. Louis, MO 63106

The event will feature remarks from Affinia Healthcare President & CEO Dr. Kendra Holmes and other special guests. Following the ceremony, you can network with our team and take a tour of the Biddle Health Center to discover the comprehensive services we provide.

A Greener, Healthier St. Louis

This initiative is about more than just aesthetics; it is a practical investment in our community’s environmental health. The project was made possible by a generous $600,000 grant from the St. Louis Project Clear Large Stormwater Grants Program, an initiative led by the Metropolitan Sewer District. This funding enabled significant infrastructure improvements, bringing high-performing and sustainable systems to our facility.

The key features of the project include:

Four Rain Gardens: These landscaped depressions collect rainwater from roofs and pavement, allowing it to soak slowly into the ground. This process filters pollutants and reduces the strain on the city’s sewer system.

Two Amended Soil Areas: Specially prepared soil helps absorb more stormwater, further preventing runoff and nourishing the plant life in the rain gardens.

Pervious Concrete Area: This innovative pavement allows water to pass directly through it into the ground below, reducing surface runoff and replenishing groundwater.

Together, these rainscaping elements create an effective, natural system for managing stormwater. They help prevent local flooding, filter contaminants, and create an inviting green space for our patients, staff, and neighbors to enjoy.

Our Commitment to the Community

For over a century, Affinia Healthcare has been dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality primary and preventive health care to the residents of St. Louis. Founded in 1906, our mission has always been to serve those who need it most. Today, we serve over 43,700 people each year, a majority of whom face significant economic and social challenges.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit community health center, we are proud to be accredited by The Joint Commission and the National Committee of Quality Assurance. Our services are vital for the diverse populations we support, including the more than 90 percent of our patients with incomes below the federal poverty level.

How You Can Help

Our work is made possible through a wide array of funding sources and the generosity of individual donors. Contributions from people like you allow us to address the unmet healthcare needs of the most vulnerable and disenfranchised in our community.

This new sustainability project is just one example of how we strive to improve the well-being of the people we serve. We invite you to become part of our mission.
