St. Louis, a city renowned for its rich sports history, is sending a remarkable contingent of athletes to the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics. Following in the footsteps of local metro east legends like Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dawn Harper-Nelson, these athletes are poised to showcase their talent and dedication on the world’s biggest sporting stage.

Basketball Legends in the Making

Jayson Tatum, a Chaminade alum and Boston Celtics superstar, returns to the Olympic stage after winning gold in Tokyo, while Napheesa Collier, a former Incarnate Word Academy athlete and current WNBA star with the Minnesota Lynx, is ready to make her Olympic debut. These two St. Louis natives are prime examples of the city’s basketball prowess.

Track and Field Stars Ready to Soar

DeAnna Price, a Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduate, aims to defend her Olympic gold in the hammer throw, while Providence College alumna and American record-holder Emily Sisson takes on the marathon. Both athletes are determined to leave their mark on the track and field events in Paris.

The Next Generation of Olympic Hopefuls

Beyond established stars, St. Louis is also sending a wave of up-and-coming talent to the Games. East Alton native Jayden Ulrich will compete in the discus throw, while athletes like Patrick Schulte (soccer), Brandon Miller (800m), Alex and Aaron Shackell (swimming), Karissa Schweizer (500m), Freddie Crittenden III (110m hurdles), and Tyler Downs (diving) are eager to showcase their abilities and represent their hometown with pride.

A City Built on Champions

These athletes’ achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication they’ve put in, as well as the unwavering support of the St. Louis community. The city’s passion for sports is evident in its robust network of high school and college programs, top-notch training facilities, and a vibrant sports culture.

As these St. Louis athletes embark on their Olympic journey, they carry the hopes and dreams of an entire city with them. Their participation in the Games is not just a personal accomplishment, but a representation of the heart and soul of St. Louis sports.

Lets go St. Louis, we’re cheering for you!
