Senator Karla May

Born and raised in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, Senator Karla May is a name that has become synonymous with dedication to public service. Her journey in the world of politics began at a remarkably young age, and over the years, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to improving the lives of her fellow Missourians.

May’s early foray into politics was nothing short of impressive. At the tender age of 16, she took the reins of the “Get Out The Vote campaign” in St. Louis, a testament to her passion and leadership skills. This early start paved the way for a remarkable career in public service.

Her political journey in Missouri has been illustrious, spanning 14 years in the legislature. May served for 8 years in the Missouri House of Representatives, and she is currently in her 5th year in the Senate. Her dedication to her constituents and her ability to get things done have been the hallmark of her political career.  In her latest endeavor, Karla May is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent the state of Missouri.

She declared her candidacy for the Democratic primary scheduled on August 6, 2024. When asked about the significance of her run, she emphasized her proven track record of delivering resources and advocating for her community. Her motivation is clear: the community cannot afford to wait for others to catch up; it needs a leader with a history of getting results.

Karla May’s understanding of the community’s needs and her ability to channel resources where they are most needed set her apart. Her dedication to neighborhood organizations and her commitment to maintaining their stability have made a tangible impact on the lives of the people she serves.

One of the pressing issues May addresses is gun violence. She believes that blaming young people for this problem is misguided and that the real issue lies in the state legislature’s dismantling of gun laws. Missouri is the only state without an age requirement for carrying a weapon, which exacerbates the exploitation of young black men. May’s stance on this issue is rooted in her commitment to addressing its root causes.  When asked what distinguishes her from other candidates in the election race, May’s response is straightforward: her experience, knowledge, and the ability to allocate resources where they are needed most.

Looking to the future, Senator Karla May’s vision is clear. When her time on this earth is done, she wants to be remembered as a “serving leader.” Her lifelong commitment to public service and her dedication to the betterment of her community leave no doubt that her legacy will be one of enduring impact and service. Senator Karla May is a name that will resonate with Missourians for generations to come.
