After an EF3 tornado hit St. Louis, local heroes like Donna “Dash” Cutelli and Prop-Man Johnson Sr. are leading efforts to rebuild lives by providing provisions, and constructing tiny homes for survivors.

In the wake of the devastating EF3 tornado that tore through St. Louis—impacting areas such as the renowned Forest Park and Zoo—the spirit of the community has shone brightly. True to its reputation, St. Louis has rallied together to provide meals, distribute essential supplies, rebuild homes, and offer comfort to those affected by this force of nature.
Recently, I had the privilege of highlighting several unsung heroes who have gone above and beyond to help their neighbors. This week, I reconnected with Donna “Dash” Cutelli, a dedicated community champion I first met through Facebook. Donna introduced me to an inspiring group of contractors and laborers who are building tiny homes on the grounds of the 100 Black Men organization in the West End to provide shelter for survivors.
Nicknamed “Dash” for her relentless energy and commitment, Donna has been instrumental in preparing meals, gathering donations, and lending her support in countless ways to help those whose lives have been upended by the storm, which tragically claimed seven lives.
Donna and others have been closely following the work of Prop-Man Johnson Sr. and his crew, including Martez Lawrence, as they construct these much-needed tiny homes. I did speak briefly with laborer Martez Lawrence, and he said that he is part of St. Louis, and felt more than compelled to help his community.
Their story deeply moved me and reaffirmed the importance of community-driven recovery efforts. I sincerely hope more donations and support will come their way.

From 100 Black Men: Update
We are entering Phase 2 of our disaster relief efforts. While short-term supplies were essential, we know that long-term solutions—like stable housing—are just as critical. We’ve opened our space at 4631 Delmar Blvd. to contractors Erion “Prop-Man” Johnson Sr. and Mike Gerdine, who are leading this powerful initiative to build 100 Tiny Homes!
This effort also includes mentoring youth in trades, giving young people a hands-on opportunity to learn, serve, and be part of the rebuilding process.
The team will be on-site Wednesday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for the next two weeks. We welcome anyone who wants to volunteer, donate supplies, or get youth involved.
