It’s that time of year for giving, and even after the holidays, our community continues to find ways to make a difference. In honor of the legendary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we will be celebrating his legacy with a ongoing food drive, spanning from Christmas through his birthday and into the end of January. Come together by collecting non-perishable items and supporting the St. Louis Public Library’s initiative to help those in need.

St. Louis Public Library (SLPL) is launching its annual MLK Food Drive in partnership with St. Louis Area Foodbank, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by supporting individuals and families across the St. Louis community.

From December 15 through January 31, community members are encouraged to donate nonperishable food and essential items at any SLPL location during normal library hours.

“Supporting the community we serve has always been our top priority, especially this year as so many of our neighbors continue to recover from the May tornado,” said Laura Stallings, Director of Neighborhood Services at SLPL. “We understand the challenges our customers are facing, and through our partnership with the St. Louis Area Foodbank, we hope to help make this season a little brighter for those who need it most.”

Requested donation items include:

  • Canned meat or fish
  • Mac and cheese
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Juice
  • Canned chili
  • Beans
  • Canned soup
  • Rice and pasta
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Powdered milk
  • Crackers
  • Fruit snacks
  • Granola bars
  • Applesauce
  • Personal care items
  • Feminine care products
  • Baby care products
  • Household essentials

Please note: No glass items will be accepted.
