LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) -For the second year, the Laurel-Jones County Black History Museum and Arts will host several events to honor Black History Month.
The first event will be U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell flying a flag over the state capitol for the museum and Black History Month and later presenting it to the museum’s director Marian Allen.
Allen said she is excited about this year’s events and is honored.
“That is such an honor for him to do that, and he’s going to present that flag on March 25,” said Allen.https://8884384c1802417ec840c9cbe854409d.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
Next, the museum is going to host a March for Justice on Feb. 9.
“We will be marching from the Black History Museum to the Jones County Courthouse because there are so many historical cases being rendered for Black people, including myself,” Allen said.
And on Feb. 17, the museum will host an event called “Back to Our Roots” in downtown Laurel.
“This will start at 12 but throughout the whole day we will have gospel songs, spoken words, rap music, children dancing,” Allen said.
Allen said it’s important to celebrate culture throughout Black History Month.
“Black history is not just for Black people, Black history is for all people,” Allen said. “Everybody needs to know everyone’s story, and I look forward to having multicultural events.”
