Explore the inspiring journey of Regina King, from her breakout role on 227 to becoming an award-winning actress and director in Hollywood.

Regina King has appeared on screen for so long that people often underestimate her. Since starting as Brenda, daughter of the Jenkins clan on the sitcom 227, King has worked with some of her generation’s best storytellers, including Barry Jenkins and John Singleton. She has won every major award, including an Oscar and an Emmy. She’s even become a great director herself, helming the feature film One Night and Miami.

Actress and director Regina King was born on January 15, 1971, in Los Angeles, California. She was raised in View Park-Windsor Hills and attended Westchester High School before pursuing her acting career.

King was married to Ian Alexander Sr. from 1997 to 2007. Their son, Ian Alexander Jr., who was born in 1996 and later became a disc jockey and recording artist, died by suicide on January 21, 2022, at age 26.

King will next produce and star in Netflix’s Shirley, a biopic about the first black congresswoman Shirley Chisholm during her historic presidential campaign to be directed by John Ridley, with whom King previously worked on American Crime. Wikipedia.

From drama to comedy, and everything in between, she continues to impress audiences with her versatility and range.
