Annual traditions and the legacy of Co-Founder Martin Mathews continue at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) Mathews-Dickey Club (MDC). Over 200 club members, volunteers, and mentors attended Sunday’s Annual Trophy Awards Celebration at the Horseshoe downtown. Dressed to impress for the semi-formal “Sneaker Ball” theme, sports teams, coaches, and cheerleaders enjoyed recognition for another successful season.
MDC Outstanding Alumni Inductee, and BGCSTL President/CEO Brandon Williams shares the Club’s impact on him as a youth at the annual Trophy Awards Celebration.
Another exciting highlight of the event is the awards presentation to outstanding MDC alumni. This year’s honorees included high-profile individuals such as BGCSTL’s new President/CEO, Brandon Williams, and the Head Coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team, Niele Ivey. Ivey is the first Black woman to hold this position in the school’s history. Other inductees included:

Darrion Guthrie, Jr. received the Meritorious Service Award, while Nikki Lewis accepted the Distinguished Citizen Award.
“It is an honor to lead the organization that made a tremendous impact on my life. We will continue to honor the legacy of Martin Mathews and the incredible work of Boys & Girls Clubs,” said BGCSTL President/CEO Brandon Williams.
Several inductees expressed their commitment to volunteering their time at the club. MDC is renowned for its exceptional sports programs, and the annual trophy awards celebration highlights the achievements of the football, softball, and cheerleading teams. “Our members look forward to this celebration every year. We make it special for them, and it is worth it to see the smiles on the children’s faces,” said MDC Club Director Tom Sullivan. He added, “That’s what I care about: seeing the children happy.”
