The inspiring journey of Osunlade, fusing soulful house with Yoruba roots—from children’s TV to legendary DJ stages.

Processed with MOLDIV

If you ever were a little bitty kid, and watched Sesame Street. Then more than likely, you probably was listening to music producer/DJ Osunlade’s music.

Osunlade, 52, was born in St Louis, MO, but later moved to Los Angeles as his music career took off. He eventually did work with Patti Labelle and Freddie Jackson briefly and later moved to New York.

In New York, he founded Yoruba Records, he stated that it was an opportunity to create the music he wanted. Roy Ayers is one of many other artists that he is still collaborating with.

He released an album titled Aquarian Moon, in 2007 and in 2009, he released an album called Passage. Many old gay bars DJs in his hometown of St Louis, MO, had sampled his compositions with disco, making for a great dance party.

Osulande is also a priest of Yoruba religion of Ifá. Due to his beliefs, his music has a deep spiritual root in Yoruba traditions, that are reflected in his music and products.

Was it Something was one tune he produced for Freddy Jackson in 1994. In 2000, he produced Merry Go Round for Musiq Soulchild,

So, this DJ, beat maker and music producer has a lot under his melodies. And with 8 studio albums, and 7 mixed compilations, you are sure to have heard his sounds somewhere in your lifetime.

Osunlade’s Genre: International, Club/Dance, Electronic, House, African Traditions, Jazz-House
