The Argus Newspaper extends our deepest condolences to the family of the late Franchot O’Neal. We have learned of his passing and, while the cause of his death is not yet known, we wish to express our gratitude for his many years of dedicated service.
Below, we share a statement from the fire department and several photos we were able to gather, with proper credits.

Statement from St. Louis Fire Department on January 5th:
With profound sadness, the St. Louis Fire Department mourns the passing of Firefighter Franchot O’Neal, an active member of our department with 33 years of dedicated service.
Firefighter O’Neal devoted his life to serving others with professionalism and unwavering dedication. His kindness, compassion, and presence touched countless lives within our department and throughout the community he proudly served.
We extend our sincerest condolences to Firefighter O’Neal’s family and to all those whose lives he enriched through his service.

Fire Fighter Franchot (Frankie) O’Neal passed away on January 3, 2026 and had a packed visitation. St. Louis Fire Captain Mosby hands Franchot daughters his axe that was going to be given to him as retirement.
