St. Louis residents will have an opportunity to join a local delegation traveling to Washington, D.C., for the National Action Network’s March on Washington on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Lincoln Memorial.
Continuing a Historic Legacy
The 2026 gathering continues the legacy of the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom held on August 28, 1963. Organized by a coalition of civil rights, labor, and religious leaders—including A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin—the march drew approximately 250,000 people to the Lincoln Memorial.
The 1963 march is remembered as the setting for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. It also helped build national momentum for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. More than six decades later, the march’s demands for voting rights, employment, economic justice, and equal opportunity remain central to the national conversation.
Vote. Opportunity. Affordability. Jobs.
The 2026 march will focus on four critical priorities: Vote, Opportunity, Affordability, and Jobs. Civil rights organizations, clergy, community leaders, advocates, and residents from across the country will gather to demand policies that protect voting rights, expand economic opportunity, improve affordability, and create sustainable employment.
St. Louis Representation and Free Transportation
St. Louis will be represented through a coordinated local mobilization and sponsored bus transportation to Washington, D.C. Transportation is free and open to all participants while seats remain available.
Space is limited: Reserve immediately. Seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis until the buses reach capacity.
Individuals who are unable to attend may support the St. Louis delegation through donations that will help cover transportation and other mobilization expenses.
