St. Louis, Missouri– The St. Louis Association of Organizations (SLACO) is excited to announce a heartfelt tribute to its esteemed former President, Sundy Whiteside. In her honor, the citywide cleanup initiative Whiteside was instrumental in launching will now be known as “The Sundy Whiteside Keeping it Clean Neighborhood Cleanups.”
Sundy Whiteside’s journey with SLACO began in 2016 when she joined the board, and she quickly rose to the presidency by 2018. Significant contributions marked her tenure, including co-founding the St. Louis Vacancy Collaborative and her role as the Vacancy Advisory Committee co-chair. Whiteside was a driving force behind the “Keeping it Clean” initiative, dedicating herself to the beautification and upliftment of St. Louis communities. Her extensive community service garnered numerous accolades and left an indelible mark on the city. Starting January 15, 2024, the “Sundy Whiteside Keeping it Clean Neighborhood Cleanups” will adopt a new name and unveil a fresh logo. Kevin McKinney, SLACO’s Executive Director, states, “Renaming this initiative is a way to ensure Sundy’s spirit and dedication continue to resonate throughout St. Louis.”
Whiteside’s civic engagement extended beyond SLACO. She served as a Tax Increment Financing Commissioner for St. Louis from 2000 to 2014, appointed by Mayor Francis Slay; she was honored with a Proclamation from Mayor Tishaura Jones and the Board of Aldermen in 2023. Her recent passing is a profound loss, but SLACO is determined to continue her legacy by upholding the values and causes she passionately spearheaded.
