Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas offers a chance for migrants to work in the Midwest, with major projects like the Panasonic battery plant and the Meta data center expected to bring thousands of job opportunities.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – “All are welcome in Kansas City.”

Those were the words of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Tuesday afternoon following a Bloomberg report that he is offering migrants wanting to leave New York City’s shelters to work in the Midwest.
The report cites major projects in the area like the Panasonic battery plant and the Meta data center facility as projects that are expected to bring thousands of jobs to the area.
“We need a lot more employees,” Lucas told Bloomberg. “If there are people who are willing and ready to work, then I believe that there could be a place for them.”
All are welcome in Kansas City. Proud to work with my fellow mayors like @MikeJohnstonCO and @NYCMayor as we work to ensure decompression of new arriving communities and collaboration among cities, labor, non-profits, and federal officials. https://t.co/bakvcp4yyK

According to the report, Lucas believes migrants with work permits could alleviate a labor shortage that has built up in Kansas City.
Lucas told Bloomberg he has been in contact with the mayors of New York and Denver, another hotspot for migrant arrivals, to strategize on how to identify workers who may want to come to Kansas City.
