St. Louis Lambert International Airport announced a new international connection on October 7. Icelandair will begin nonstop service between St. Louis and Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport on May 14, 2027, running through October 24 of that year.
The basics
Icelandair plans up to four weekly flights on a Boeing 737 MAX 8. Early listings show a flight time of roughly six and a half hours, and some tickets were already priced at around $500 round trip. Some reports describe the schedule as starting with three weekly flights, so check Icelandair’s website for the exact days before booking.
A gateway to Europe
The airline says the route connects St. Louis to more than 35 European destinations through its Reykjavik hub. Icelandair also runs a stopover program that lets travelers stay up to seven days in Iceland at no extra airfare, which could appeal to anyone who wants two trips in one.
The Southwest connection
The announcement came with an expanded partnership between Icelandair and Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier at Lambert. That should make it easier for travelers flying in from smaller cities to connect onto the Iceland flight.
Not the first try
St. Louis has had nonstop Iceland service before. WOW Air flew the route starting in 2018 but went out of business in 2019. Local officials have also pointed to British Airways’ planned daily London service starting summer 2027, announced just weeks ago, as part of a growing push for transatlantic flights.
Why it matters
Direct international routes help local businesses reach overseas partners, and they give residents a more convenient way to travel. Because the Icelandair flights are seasonal, travelers should plan around the May to October window.
