Discover the impact of the 1904 World’s Fair on St. Louis and the world at the Missouri History Museum’s reimagined exhibit, reopening on April 27.
Edited from St. Louis MOM/Facebook
The World’s Fair is arguably one of the most influential events in St. Louis’s history, putting us on the global map.
From April 30-December 1, 1904, more than 19 million visitors from around the world came to the Lou to enjoy entertainment, attractions, the famous Ferris Wheel, culinary delights, cultures from around the world, and MORE. It was truly the experience of the century. This newly reimagined exhibit is a celebration of this event and an opportunity to learn about the Fair from various perspectives.
A few kid-friendly items to note:
– History brought to life through artifacts that feel relatable, including clothing, furniture, and dishes
– Highly visual featuring a 3-D printed scale model of the Fair
– Small screen devoted to showing scenes from Meet Me in St. Louis (might be fun to enjoy the film as a family before or after viewing the exhibit!)
– Touchable reproductions including an Olympic medal from the 1904 games!
– The Museum’s physical location at the entrance to the Fairgrounds (built after the Fair closed), provides a tangible connection to the event
– The opening weekend is intentionally geared towards families with live music, crafts, food trucks, dance and dramatic performances, historic cars on display (little boy heaven!), and more.
– Please note: Free, timed-entry tickets will be available each day of opening weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. The museum is expecting a lot of excitement, so be prepared to wait—but there is a lot to occupy the family during that time! VIP packages can be purchased ahead of time, which includes a reserved-timed ticket, a meal at the Museum’s restaurant, and a World’s Fair t-shirt.
This project is 5 years in the making, uncovering memories, artifacts, and experiences from more than 100 years ago, thanks to the Missouri Historical Society. This is a must-see.
