My experience as a recent attendee of the Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce event hosted by the Conley Financial Group solidified my belief in the Chamber’s core values of hospitality and connection. This was the second of their three-part lunch-and-learn series, and the energy was amicable from the start.
Even before everyone settled in, Denale Powell, a chamber member known as “Mr. Network,” lived up to his name by encouraging us to “meet someone new.” This is a powerful aspect of the Heartland Black Chamber – it fosters lasting connections that go beyond business. True to form, I met some outstanding individuals at this event, as is every other time I’ve attended.
The featured speaker was Quincy L. Branch, President and CEO of the Conley Financial Group. As we enjoyed a delicious brunch, we participated in icebreaker activities and learned fun facts about each other. (There might have been a conversation involving Quincy’s middle name, but I won’t spill the beans lol). Waiting at each table were branded planners, pens, and tote bags from the Conley Group, along with informative materials about the day’s topic: life insurance.
The Importance of Proactive Planning:
The prevalent message throughout the event echoed the importance of proactive financial planning, particularly regarding life insurance. Many people, myself included, often push life insurance decisions to the back burner. However, as Mr. Branch emphasized, the “when you need it, it’s too late” mentality can leave loved ones vulnerable in the face of unexpected hardship. Like the “tie a knot” metaphor he presented, life insurance acts as a safety net, guaranteeing a minimum level of security for your family.
Beyond the Basics:
The session went beyond the traditional death benefit discussion. We learned how life insurance can be used for various purposes, including covering final expenses or debts while contributing to long-term goals like college education.
A Valuable Experience:
By the end of the brunch, the entire group had a newfound perspective on life insurance. There were even opportunities for members to share personal stories and receive valuable insights directly from Mr. Branch. Several attendees even walked away with attendance prizes!
The Takeaway:
This event was informative, and a testament to the positive and supportive environment fostered by the Heartland Black Chamber. There are still seats available for the next session on April 18th, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
