Everybody wants to be in the swing of things when it comes to Tesla, but wait until the arctic blast hits.

When trying out a new product, everyone likes change, and being in a Tesla is like being Elon’s Musk best friend.

Opinion

I have been saying this for years, ever since Elon Musk came into my mental perimeter. I don’t understand why everyone gets so excited about owning a Tesla electric car, those cars are only good for warmer climates.

In cities like St. Louis, Chicago, or maybe Milwaukee, Detroit, or Kansas City, where crime is constant, it is not a good idea. Who would want to be stuck on a bad street in the wintertime in a frozen car or a car that needs to be charged up?

Moreover, I am not disrespecting my hometown, but thieves do not know if your car is electric or not, while you are stranded. They will attempt to rob you anyway just for the fun of it.

In that regard, why take a chance trying to charge your car up, in places like Chicago on a dark road where the charging station is frozen or running slow? It is just too dangerous to be taking a chance in any metro city while trying to be trendy in any electric car brand.

Additionally, my story is not about bashing owning an electric car, but I wouldn’t want the headache. Even in the summertime, I see people lined up at the charging port to juice up the engine. I have slight anxiety pumping gas, so I am for surely don’t want to be electrifying my car.

Electric cars also offer a sense of change and progress, catering to those who enjoy trying out new things and being ahead of the curve. They also align with the increasing global focus on sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

Furthermore, Tesla’s founder and CEO, Elon Musk, has a cult-like following and has been hailed as a visionary and genius for his work with Tesla and other companies such as SpaceX. People are drawn to Tesla as a symbol of Musk’s innovation and success.

Overall, the combination of advanced technology, environmental benefits, luxury, and a visionary founder has created a strong appeal for Tesla electric cars.

In closing, there is no official data on the percentage of Elon Musk’s electric cars that get frozen or inoperable in bitter winter seasons. However, it is worth noting that electric cars, in general, can experience decreased range and performance in extremely cold temperatures, as the batteries are affected by the cold. This is a common issue with all-electric cars, not just those produced by Elon Musk’s companies. As electric car technology continues to improve, measures are being taken to better handle cold weather conditions and prevent any potential issues.

Tesla owners run into battery charging trouble in Chicago’s bitter cold

By Steffanie Dupree

VERGREEN PARK, Ill. (CBS) — Some Tesla drivers learned the hard way about how cold weather affects battery life.

At a charging station at The Evergreen Marketplace, at 9200 S. Western Ave. in Evergreen Park, Teslas were lined up early Monday morning. Some of the Teslas’ batteries died in Chicago’s sub-zero temperatures, leaving the cars sitting askew and immobile in the parking lot.

Driver said some of the charging stations weren’t working, and those that were working took a lot longer than usual to charge.

“I’ve been here for over five hours at this point, and I still have not gotten to charge my car,” said Tesla driver Brandon Welbourne. “A charge that should take 45 minutes is taking two hours.”

Welbourne said he saw at least ten cars towed.

Tesla advises owners to keep the charge level above 20 percent during bitter cold weather.

The company’s support website said it’s normal to see energy consumption increase because the Teslas use more energy to heat the battery and cabin.

“We have made several updates to improve your driving experience in freezing temperatures, including better overall thermal performance, quicker Supercharging, and improved cabin conditioning,” the company said.
